In the meantime, let’s make sure we make the most of our time. Think about what you’d like to talk about beforehand and write down any questions you might have for me.

If you mostly want me to give you feedback on a specific project you’re working on, you’re pretty much good to go! Just make sure you email me a link or pdf beforehand, so we spend less time during your session getting files to me.

If you want to work on a project together, start thinking about what you might like to create: a book cover? A lettered postcard? The logo for a fictional jazz club?

If, however, you want to talk more generally about your career and professional goals, here are some general questions from me to get you thinking about your work and objectives (we don’t need to answer any of them during our session, unless you want to)

• What’s one thing you love about your work and what’s one thing you don’t?

• What’s your Achilles' heel?

• Do you feel like your work is technically strong? Do you feel like your work is conceptually strong?

• Do you feel like your portfolio, as a whole, is strong? If so, is it also honest (does it communicate who you really are and what you want to do)?

• If you stay on the course you’re currently on, where do you see your career in five years? Do you like what you see?

• If you could magically make it happen, where do you want your career to be in five years? What do you want to do with your time? (Note, I didn’t ask who do you want to be—i.e. a famous designer, a pro letterer, etc—think about what you want to spend your waking hours doing)

• Do you feel like you need a vacation?

• What’s one word you can use to describe your relationship to your work?

• Are you currently working on a passion project?

• Do you feel like you have control over your career or is it the other way around?

• Do you want more Instagram followers? If so, why?

• What role does Instagram play in your life? Is it helping you build your career or chipping away at your confidence (or both)?

• Do you feel like you’re able to price your work accurately?
